Battery Recharging with Braking Energy

There is no need to charge the battery using external equipment. The Toyota Hybrid System automatically charges the battery by using electricity generated each time you apply the brakes.

Saving Energy Recovered from Braking

In conventional vehicles, the energy created when applying brakes is normally lost as friction heat. With the Toyota Hybrid System, under braking or when the accelerator is lifted, the rotational force of the driver axle is used to generate electricity. When decelerating, the energy is recovered in the battery; and when accelerating, that energy is reused to power the electric motor, so the energy is not wasted. This regenerative braking system is particularly effective in urban districts, where frequent braking is required.
